Musings on #Metoo
Musings on #Metoo.
Male sexuality is marked by aggression. The dominant male hormone testosterone which results in his sexuality also creates aggressive behaviour. The fact is very well documented and studied in the natural world.
Female sexuality is basically marked by the nourishment of the male ego. The dominant female hormone is Estrogen.
Life is the creation of the interplay of these two primordial instincts. The relationship is complex and defies an easy synopsis. This is especially so when women sometimes prefer a dominant partner rather than a sensitive gentleman.
The sexual functioning of a human being is completely different from his other achievements because it is not totally guided by the rational mind, but by instinct. As such a human being with otherwise great achievements in any field might still have unpredictable sexual behaviour. Rather, people with great capabilities suffer more from deviant sexual behaviour, because their minds are perennially in an excited state and unstable.
Currently, the #Metoo movement has gathered steam and reached such a state that legal wrangling cannot hide the brutal truth prevailing in our society.
A mild amount of aggression in the male is actually tolerated and welcomed by females. However, men with an extremely high libido crosses the line between wooing and reaches the state of predatory behaviour.
The basic instinct of the sexual feeling is to prolong life. As such soldiers during war indulge in extremely aggressive sexual behaviour resulting in rape and other human rights abuses. This is because, seeing death from close quarters and realising their own inevitable end, they want to prolong their existence on this earth by leaving their genes in as many receptacles as possible.
In the Corporate world, a predatory sexual behaviour is very common. Successful people and high fliers are more prone to this behaviour. This, however, has much to do with an inferiority complex rather than any sexual need.
The game of dominance and expanding their area of influence becomes primary rather than any human sexual need. When the power and perks of the chair are brought into this play of dominance than the situation becomes too murky.
The biggest problem with these people is that they get fanatically obsessed when someone says “NO”. Their core inferiority complex gets activated and to prove themselves they go all out to make the conquest. It becomes an ego-satisfying issue rather than a sexual need. A predatory male may have N number of conquests but he gets obsessed when one single female says NO. This results in the criminally deviant sexual behaviour.
It is a known fact that many otherwise successful people are extremely predatory in their sexual behaviour.
The worst #Metoo moment in the history of India is the case of M K Gandhi and his experiments with his nieces. Although an admirer of M K Gandhi on various issues I cannot under any circumstances accept this deviant behaviour in his otherwise religious and truthful life.
I sometimes feel traumatised by this action of M K Gandhi. I do not mind his sexual experiments. But I am traumatised by his decision to pick as partners for these experiments – two little girls who were awed and totally under his psychological domination. They were too young to take an informed or matured decision in this respect. It was pure and simply a breach of trust.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in a letter to Gandhi on January 25, 1947, currently among the Patel papers housed in the National Archives, asked him to suspend the experiment which Patel called a "terrible blunder" on Gandhi's part that pained his followers "beyond measure". I am fully in agreement with Sardar Patel on this issue.
The # Metoo moment has to accept this and declare him as the first offender of modern India.
Finally, an aggressive sexual behaviour is not a male preserve only. I have been interacting with night taxi operators in various major cities and some of the stories they tell of drunken women preying on them are disgusting to say the least.
The final conclusion of this #Metoo movement is not simply to name and shame. The movement will be a success, when we the human race accept our sexuality and do not try to brush the same under the garb of a totally illogical religion inspired celibacy.
Wooing women is not a crime. The world moves because of this wooing. But to behave in a predatory manner in the personal domain of a hapless woman is definitely a criminal act.
